WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE TOGETHER

The Utah Protection and Stewardship Coordinator works to achieve TNC-Utah's conservation goals by employing a full range of protection tools to acquire and manage varying degrees of legal interests in land and water. They will assist in implementing real estate transactions and will provide coordination, support, project management and other general assistance to staff working toward the achievement of protection, conservation, and stewardship goals. This is a full-time salaried position based in Utah.

The Utah Protection and Stewardship Coordinator has these essential functions:

  • Fields initial responses to inquiries from landowners, private organizations, and public agencies regarding acquiring and/or transferring legal interests in land and water.
  • Assesses and prioritizes potential acquisition projects against established criteria.
  • Assists in writing and negotiating agreements to acquire and/or transfer legal interests in land and water, including fee title and conservation easements.
  • Conducts and oversees due diligence for acquisition projects by contracting with appraisers, environmental consultants, surveyors, geologists, and other contractors; reviews and approves all due diligence reports in coordination with legal department.
  • Prepares all required materials and documentation for obtaining internal project approvals.
  • Performs site visits and analyzes high-resolution satellite imagery of all real estate interests prior to and following acquisition to ensure compliance with terms and conditions of legal agreements.
  • Monitors or oversees monitoring of TNC's conservation easements throughout the state of Utah as required by internal policies and external requirements.
  • Assists with property management, including writing and updating Preserve Management Plans, and works closely with TNC stewardship staff on property management matters.
  • Maintains all land and water inventory records in the appropriate TNC databases, including the shared conservation HUB, Land Asset Management System (LAMS), and LegalLink, Legal Data Resource Center, or similar systems.
  • Coordinate and support the Utah Chapter's response to conservation data requests and serve as a liaison to division and global TNC teams to ensure effective tracking of Utah's contributions towards TNC's strategies and goals.
  • Assists in writing and managing public funding proposals to secure funds for acquisition projects.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • BA/BS, law or business degree and 5 years' experience in conservation, natural resource management, real estate, or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Project management experience.Legal experience or experience with real estate transactions and/or experience with principles of land and water conservation, including land acquisition and transfer.
  • Ability to develop project timelines and then complete tasks within timelines. Proven organization skills.
  • Experience using applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Web Browsers, Workday, and/or project management tools.
  • Excellent communication skills via written, spoke and graphical means in English.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Multi-lingual skills and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated.
  • Familiarity with public funding sources for land conservation.
  • Experience with water rights acquisitions or leasing, and record-keeping.
  • Experience communicating with the public and/or media both in writing and verbally.
  • Knowledge of land management conservation practice and conservation science.
  • Ability to explain conservation practices to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Knowledge of current trends and practices in conservation, land management, and natural resource preservation.
  • Ability to complete tasks independently with respect to timeline(s).

Employment in this position will be contingent upon completion of a Vehicle Use Agreement, which may include a review of the prospective employee's motor vehicle record.


SALARY INFORMATION

The starting pay range for a candidate selected for this position is generally within the range of $69,000 - $73,500 for annual base salary. This range only applies to candidates whose country of employment is the USA. Where a successful candidate's actual pay will fall within this range will be based on a variety of factors, including, for example, the candidate's location, qualifications, specific skills, and experience. Please note countries outside the USA would have a different pay range in the local currency based on the local labor market, and not tied to USA pay or ranges. Your geographic location will be confirmed during the recruitment.
