This position may be considered Hybrid based on PetSmart’s FlexSmart policy and business needs. A Hybrid work arrangement is considered to be a blend of onsite and remote work activity. Associates with a Hybrid work arrangement have a work space at Phoenix Home Office and can be required to come onsite between 1-5 days a week as determined by leadership and based on business needs.
About the Job
The Sr Manager Store & DC Systems provides leadership and direction for the engineering, delivery, and support of Stores & Distribution Center (DC) infrastructure systems and tools that enable PetSmart's business strategies. This individual is responsible for managing the daily activities of the Store and DC infrastructure and system engineers and coordinating work across all areas of the team including project delivery, continuous improvements, and operational support. The role is also accountable for partnering with cross functional teams including other infrastructure, functional application, and business teams to support and implement solutions aligned with the company’s technical and business strategies. The Sr Manager Store & DC Systems organizes the teams work into predictable and managed change by defining clear scope, schedule, and resource plans and developing strong relationships with their business partners. This role requires the ability to multi-task, prioritize, and manage multiple concurrent projects aligning the priorities of their team and managing the workload accordingly. In addition to managing the internal PetSmart staff, this role will also manage key vendors that provide deployment and support services within our stores and DC’s.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Overall design, deployment, and support of technical infrastructure systems and services including store and DC networks (circuits/broadband, SD-WAN, switching, wireless, phones, & security), server & virtualization, and end user devices (PC/VDI, hand-held scanners/smart devices, tablets, and printers), and other technologies that enable PetSmart’s stores, distribution centers, and corporate strategies.
- Partners with IT Leadership to define and create strategic roadmaps for Store and DC infrastructure that serves as the foundational enabler of PetSmart’s business processes. Presents multi-year plans to senior IT and business leadership.
- Forecasts and manages both capital and operational investments to deliver new, upgrade existing, and maintain/operate Store & DC Infrastructure systems.
- Monitors and evaluates new technology capabilities and changes in business needs to develop IT strategies, architectures and multi-year roadmaps that drive both innovation and efficiencies within PetSmart’s Stores and DC’s.
- Builds and presents project business cases including detailed scope, timelines, and financials plans for key projects.
- Hands-on leader directing the daily delivery of key infrastructure projects ensuring on-time and high-quality delivery as well as strong end user adoption.
- Directs the activities of key IT vendors who support project deployments to stores and DC’s.
- Partners and participates in strategic projects including assigning resources and ensuring high quality systems are delivered in accordance with project timelines and architectural standards.
- Partners with IT management and other IT functions in the design and implementation of processes which enhance operational efficiencies and stability of PetSmart’s IT systems.
- Deploys and supports system automation, configuration management, and monitoring tools and services improving reliability and uptime of IT systems.
- Ensures new applications systems and infrastructure components adhere to defined architecture requirements and standards and are in compliance with internal and external security requirements.
- Has accountability of creating and managing operating budgets ensuring actual costs are in-line with planned budgets and updates financial forecasts based on changes in system environments.
- Vendor Management – Assessed vendors and their capabilities and ability to create value for PetSmart; partners with our procurement and legal teams to effectively negotiate services & products; proactively evaluates contractual terms and renewals; and ensures vendor performance adheres to contractual language and expected performance metrics.
- Provides technical and process expertise with regards to the company’s disaster recovery program.
- Collaborates with vendors to ensure the appropriate support model and cost is applied to all equipment and services.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:
- Technology infrastructure design, implementation, and management of enterprise and retail infrastructure and system technologies
- Strong knowledge and experience with enterprise technologies including server hardware & OS's, database, network, storage, and virtualization tools
- Strong knowledge in retail and device technologies that support store and distribution center operations
- Strong understanding of system and application delivery in a fast-paced environment
- Proven track record of successfully creating, implementing, and improving IT operational controls
- Experience in supporting regulatory mandates including PCI and SOX
- Strong background in implementing enterprise system monitoring and alerting
- Excellent project management and documentation skills
- Ability to make sound judgments, prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment without supervision
- Ability to develop strong teams with proper balance of coaching, mentoring, delegation and leadership
- Strong interpersonal skills: ability to communicate with customers, vendors, partners, and business managers across various levels of the organization
- Able to communicate difficult technical concepts clearly to a variety of individuals of varying technical expertise and understanding in a clear and concise manner
- Must be highly organized and capable of providing technical leadership while requiring minimal day-to-day guidance
- Possess superior problem solving skills for a complex system topology, being able to assemble a team as needed to identify issues, root causes and solutions
- Knowledge in E-Commerce and digital applications is preferred
- Knowledge of industry standards and framework (ITIL, ISO, COBIT) a plus
Supervises teams of up to 15 technical resources plus vendors. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and coaching & rewarding employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; addressing personnel issues. Responsible for directly managing budgets up to $5M and supporting budgets in excess of $200M.
QUALIFICATIONS:
BA/BS degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field required or equivalent combination of education and experience. 5+ years managing or serving in a supervisory/lead role within a systems engineering organization or equivalent experience in similar roles and functions with enterprise level organizations.
