Principal Research Scientist -Product Sustainability at Aquent Talent in Chicago, IL

Location: Fully Remote

We are seeking an experienced and motivated technical leader to guide a research and standards team focused on advancing product sustainability. As the Principal Research Scientist, you will play a key role in conducting research and analysis that support the development and implementation of sustainability standards and services. Working with cross-functional teams, you will provide technical expertise, drive innovation, and contribute to the advancement of sustainable practices across industries.

Responsibilities

Conduct Research and Analysis: Lead research initiatives to assess and improve sustainability practices across various industries. Analyze industry trends, evaluate environmental and social impacts, and identify opportunities for process improvements.
Develop Sustainability Standards and Frameworks: Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to create and refine sustainability standards. This includes reviewing literature, analyzing best practices, and contributing to the development of guidelines and criteria for sustainable practices.
Stay Current on Sustainability Trends and Regulations: Keep abreast of emerging regulations, industry standards, and best practices in sustainability. Leverage this knowledge to inform the development of services and standards.
Provide Technical Expertise: Support the creation and implementation of sustainability services, including assessments, certifications, and reporting. Offer technical guidance to internal teams and external clients on sustainability-related issues and opportunities.
Collaborate with Cross-Functional Teams: Work with consultants, project managers, and other stakeholders to deliver high-quality sustainability services. Share knowledge and contribute to the success of sustainability projects across various sectors.
Communicate Research Findings: Prepare and present research findings to internal teams, management, and external stakeholders. Effectively communicate the environmental and social impacts of different practices and propose actionable strategies for improvement.
Foster Partnerships and Collaborations: Build and maintain relationships with external partners, research institutions, and industry organizations. Collaborate on joint research initiatives to stay at the forefront of sustainability practices and innovations.

Qualifications

Ph.D. or Master's degree in sustainability, environmental science, engineering, or a related field. A strong background in sustainability research and standards development is preferred.
Proven experience in conducting research and analysis related to sustainability, including industry assessments, benchmarking, and best practice analysis.
In-depth understanding of sustainability principles, frameworks, and relevant regulations and standards.
Proficiency in sustainability assessment tools, data analysis software, and other relevant applications.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and draw meaningful conclusions.
Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment.
Strong project management skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software applications.
