The People Resources Officer (PRO) serves as a lead advisor to the GRU business units and manages organizational design, talent acquisition, employee relations, performance management, training & development, employee engagement, employee wellness, HR compliance, and compensation and benefits. The PRO works to achieve GRU’s mission and objectives while promoting the corporate values and shaping a positive organizational culture. This position functions as part of the senior leadership team.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:

The People Resources Officer (PRO) serves as a lead advisor to the GRU business units and manages organizational design, talent acquisition, employee relations, performance management, training & development, employee engagement, employee wellness, HR compliance, and compensation and benefits. The PRO works to achieve GRU’s mission and objectives while promoting the corporate values and shaping a positive organizational culture. This position functions as part of the senior leadership team.

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Develops and implements HR strategies and initiatives aligned with the overall business strategy and mission.
  • Bridges management and employee relations by addressing demands, grievances or other issues.
  • Manages the workforce planning, talent acquisition, onboarding, and retention processes.
  • Develops and monitors overall HR strategies, systems, tactics and procedures for talent acquisition, HRIS, performance management, talent review, compensation and benefits, and succession planning across the organization.
  • Acts as a business partner, nurtures a positive working environment, and handles employee relations with a servant leader’s mindset.
  • Maintains and recommends innovative employee options for the total rewards employee model.
  • Assesses training needs to apply and monitor training programs.
  • Reports to HR leadership and provides decision support through HR metrics.
  • Ensures legal compliance with state and federal laws.
  • Monitors and updates the employee handbook to ensure up-to-date policies are in place that considers the applicable laws and regulations.

SKILLS:

  • People oriented and results driven
  • Demonstrable experience with Human Resources metrics
  • Knowledge of HR systems and databases
  • Ability to architect strategy along with management skills and experience
  • Excellent active listening, negotiation and presentation skills
  • Competence to build and effectively manage interpersonal relationships at all levels of the company
  • In-depth knowledge of employment and labor law
  • Experience with talent acquisition and compensation planning
  • Comfortable in managing through ambiguity

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in Human Resources, Organizational Development, Business Administration, Industrial Management, Public Administration, Industrial- Organizational Psychology, or related field, and at least five (5) years of progressively responsible management or supervisory experience in the human resources field or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • Proven working experience as HR Manager or other HR Executive
  • HRIS System implementations preferred (SAP/Success Factors)
  • Human Resources management experience in utilities is desirable.
  • The following certifications are highly desirable:
    • Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR), from the Human Resources Certification Institute
    • Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP), from the Society for Human Resource Management
    • Certified Compensation Professional (CCP), from World at Work
