Summary

The Fleet Safety Manager is responsible for ensuring LCCB (including its regulated & non-regulated drivers) is compliant within all applicable jurisdictions and stakeholders including but not limited to FMCSA/DOT, DEP, state/city regulations, insurance carrier, etc.). The Fleet Safety Manager will create, update, roll out and manage fleet safety policies and procedures, assist Driver Trainers with the onboarding process and orientation when needed, as well as assist the safety department in ensuring the drivers are maintaining the high standards set forth by LCCB.

Responsibilities

  • Reports to the Vice President of Operations, providing leading and lagging indicators/key performance indicators (KPIs) on a periodic basis.
  • Partners with Operational Excellence & Operations to analyze KPIs as well as power unit usage patterns to offer action items leading to eliminate/reduce risk.
  • Partners with Safety Department, Facility Managers, and other Departments to coordinate, facilitate, and measure KPIs and related activities.
  • Provide driver coaching on all known road conditions, steep grades, ice, snow, mud, gravel, lease roads, highway, and night.
  • Track business internal and external regulatory compliance (CSA, RSI, DQF, DOT qualification status, HUT, etc.)
  • Track performance and provide identified retraining and process improvement opportunities.
  • Coordinate, plan, and conduct driver coaching and documents evaluations.
  • Determine employees’ driving abilities and competency. Conduct employee assessments to develop and when required communicate a development plan for current or new hire employees with management.
  • Have thorough knowledge of transportation policies and DOT/FMCSA regulations.
  • Provide classroom-based training.

Qualifications

  • Satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record required.
  • Class A driver’s license is a plus (previously held is also a plus).
  • Heavy haul or unique driving experience is a plus.
  • 3-5 years experience creating, updating, rolling out, and managing fleet safety policies and procedures is required.
  • Must have knowledge of DOT/FMCSA rules and regulations.
  • Must demonstrate knowledge of Federal/State FMCSA regulations and other relevant government, industrial, and city/territory specific standards.
  • Working knowledge in Microsoft programs (Word, Excel, Power Point)
  • Must have knowledge with Electronic Logging systems.
  • Hazardous Materials Transportation Experience a plus.

  • Must have great communication skills, as the Fleet Safety Manager will be responsible for communicating with leadership (executive team, site-specific teams) drivers, management, dispatch, other office personnel, and drivers.

  • Excellent organizational skills for prioritizing workloads and maintaining proper documentation.
  • Must have strong emphasis on fleet safety policies and procedures.
