Position Summary:

We are seeking an Environmental Engineer II who is passionate about protecting our environment, ensuring compliance, and constantly striving for continual improvement. In this role, you will identify material environmental aspects and impacts and implement projects to improve the company’s overall environmental performance.

Essential Position Duties:

  • Implement and execute programs that reduce our environmental footprint.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable local, state, and federal environmental laws and regulations.
  • Submit and manage data that is required for chemical reporting, including the Chemical Data Reporting (CDR) rule under the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA), EPCRA Tier I/II Reporting, and Toxic Release Inventory (TRI) Sara 311-313.
  • Coordinate, oversee, and implement RCRA Hazardous Waste management program, including hazardous waste minimization techniques and Bi-Annual Hazardous Waste reporting.
  • Maintain the site’s Title V Air permit, inspections, and emission reporting.
  • Responsible for chemical substance inventory, environmental data sheets, and the administration of the Hazard Communication program.
  • Oversee NPDES compliance and operate the onsite industrial wastewater treatment plant.
  • Implement SWPPP and SPCC programs and perform required inspections.
  • Conduct regular audits of EHS processes and necessary follow-ups to ensure compliance and advise plant leadership of findings.
  • Analyze environmental incidents, determine root causes, implement corrective action, and communicate this information to plant leadership and corporate.
  • Responsible for environmental agency site visits and inspections.
  • Drive continued growth of the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System (EMS).
  • Identify environmental aspects and impacts associated with plant changes and projects, like capital projects, construction activities, and process changes.
  • Assist with developing and delivering regulatory required training in line with state and federal guidelines.
  • Support 5S workplace organization processes in the plant through direct project involvement and leading by example.
  • Performs related work as assigned.
  • Regular attendance in the workplace is required for interaction with others and to support teamwork.

Specific Knowledge and Skills:

  • Speak clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations; demonstrate group presentation skills and ability to conduct meetings.
  • Involve the shop associates in problem-solving and process improvement.
  • Foster and encourage an atmosphere of responsibility, safety, and pride.
  • Comply with all Company policies and procedures.
  • Adhere to all applicable safety and environmental standards (i.e. federal, state, local, etc.)
  • Communicates effectively with supervisors, colleagues, and staff.
  • Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner
  • Additional duties as assigned

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline (i.e., environmental engineering, environmental science, etc.)
  • 2+ years of experience.
  • Certified Industrial Wastewater Operator preferred.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Toyota Production System (TPS) and 5S experience desirable.
  • Professional HSS Certifications are a plus (i.e. ASP, CSP, CIH, etc.).
  • Knowledge of basic business software programs, such as Microsoft Office Suite.

Individuals may need to sit or stand as needed. May require walking primarily on a level surface for long periods throughout the day. Reaching above shoulder height, below the waist, or lifting as required to file documents or store materials throughout the work day. Proper lifting techniques are required. May include lifting up to 44 pounds on occasion. Frequent use of computer and telephone.

Primary environment: splits time between the manufacturing floor and the typical office environment. The Toyota shop floor is not climate-controlled and internal temperatures will be relative to the external temperatures.
